2022 Trail of Governors Annual Report

Farewell

South Dakota lost another former governor when Governor Harvey Wollman died on Oct. 18, 2022.
Governor Wollman participated in events supporting the Trail of Governors, and he is fondly
remembered by many South Dakotans for his dedicated service.

Funds Raised

Donations to-date for the foundation totaled $2,335,119 at the close of 2022. In 2022, the total raised
was $81,450. Funds contributed to the foundation’s endowment fund now total $29,893, with $5,040
contributed in 2022.

What’s Next?

The next statue to be created will be in honor of Governor Kristi Noem, who was re-elected as
South Dakota’s governor for a second term, serving through 2026.

Meanwhile, the annual Run with the Govs event will continue annually. The 2023 event is scheduled for
Saturday, June 17, during the annual Oahe Days celebration in Pierre, June 16-17, 2023. More

Donor Recognition and Opportunities

The Trail of Governors Foundation board members are grateful for the project’s many donors. They
believed in the dream. The project’s underwriters supported the project during its leanest times. The
foundation is led by seven volunteer board members as well as its valued advisors. All believed in the
dream, even when it seemed beyond reach when fundraising was difficult, and then a flood and later
a pandemic blocked the way.
