2024 Trail of Governors Annual Report

                   Run With the Govs

The 2024 Run With the Govs was held on June 15, 2024, with more than 110 participants. Proceeds from the event are donated to the

Trail of Governors Foundation. Braden Curnow of Huron was the top male finisher at 18:10, and Ashley Curnow of Huron was the top
female at 22:34. The top 12 and Under finishers were Jayce Jensen of Pierre and Andree Brech of Pierre. Many enjoyed more leisurely
walks along the trail at their own pace.

This seventh annual run was dedicated to former Governor Sheldon who was South Dakota's second governor.

                   Funds Raised

Donations to the foundation in 2024 totaled $8,550, with another $100 donated to the foundation's endowment fund. The foundation

continues to seek donations to maintain and promote the bronzes and the overall trail.

                   What's Next?

The next former governor's statue to be created and placed will honor South Dakota's 33rd governor, Kristi Noem. She left office at the
beginning of 2025, promoting her Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden to 34th governor of the state. South Dakota's newest lieutenant

governor is one of the Trail of Governors Foundation board members, Tony Venhuizen.
The next Run With the Govs event will be the morning of June 14, 2025, starting at the Capitol building's outdoor grand staircase.

More information can be found via Run With the Govs on Facebook.

                   Donor Recognition and Opportunities

The Trail of Governors Foundation board members express their gratitude to all the donors that have made this project a reality. Those
contributing a quarter or more of each statute's cost are named on bronze plaques at each statue. These donors stepped up with their

generosity and desire to honor South Dakota's history and leaders, making a wish a lifesize reality. The foundation board is made up of
seven volunteers, while eight individuals serve as advisors to the board.

Those wishing to honor an individual are encouraged to do so either via the foundation's general fund or endowment fund. These dona-
tions and those they are honoring or memorializing are posted on the foundation's website as well as in each foundation annual report.
Maintenance includes annual cleaning and sealing of the lifesize bronzes and replacing weather-worn QR codes. Promotional items
include printing trail brochure maps, updating the website and investing in promotional tools on occasion.

A vision to create a lasting legacy of South Dakota’s governors.
