2023 Trail of Governors Annual Report

             Run with the Govs

The 2023 Run with the Govs on June 17, 2023, brought nearly 90 participants from South Dakota and surrounding states. Pierce Baumberger of
Miller, SD set a new course record of 18:03.

This sixth annual run was dedicated to former Governor Harvey Wollman. Wollman, the state’s 26th governor, had been a keen supporter of the

Trail of Governors from its starting point. He had addressed the crowd at unveiling ceremonies, including the unveiling of his statue a decade ago,
on Flag Day, June 14, 2013. That was a historic ceremony with Govs. Wollman, Farrar, Miller, Rounds, and current Gov. Daugaard all present and
participating in the celebration in the Capitol Rotunda.

             Funds Raised

Donations to-date for the foundation totaled $2,411,219 at the close of 2023. In 2023, the total raised was $76,100. Funds contributed to the
foundation’s endowment fund now total $106,013.

             What’s Next?

The next statue to be created will be in honor of Governor Kristi Noem, who was re-elected as South Dakota’s governor for a second term, serving
until 2027. Meanwhile, the annual Run with the Govs event will continue annually. The 3.5 mile run or walk, with proceeds helping to fund the
trail, is scheduled for Saturday morning, June 15, 2024, beginning at the Capitol’s outdoor grand staircase. It will be part of the annual Oahe Days

Music and Arts Festival in Pierre, June 15-16, 2024. More information can be found via Run With the Govs and Oahe Days on Facebook.

             Donor Recognition and Opportunities

The Trail of Governors Foundation board members express gratitude to the project’s many donors. These financial supporters stayed true to the

dream. The project’s underwriters supported the project since the start. Seven volunteers serve on the foundation’s board, and these members
receive support from eight advisors. All believed in the dream, even when it seemed beyond reach when fundraising challenges, a flood and a
pandemic became hurdles along the way.

A vision to create a lasting legacy of South Dakota’s governors.
