2021 Trail of Governors Annual Report
The Trail of Governors Foundation Board President Rick Jensen remarked,
“South Dakota is known for successfully taking on challenges and raising gifted leaders.
The Trail of Governors celebrates this. Here in South Dakota, you can walk – or run – alongside
our state’s former governors. Along the way, you can enjoy first-class artwork, learn some
important history lessons, and get a workout.”
Gov. Frank Farrar
Sad news spread throughout South Dakota when it
was learned that Gov. Frank Farrar passed away on
Oct. 31, 2021, at the age of 92.
Frank Farrar served as the state’s 24th governor. He began his
service to the state as attorney general from 1963 to 1969, and
was elected governor, serving from 1969 to 1971. Gov. Farrar
was an enthusiastic supporter of the Trail of Governors from
the very beginning. He was a generous contributor to the
project and was present at nearly every unveiling ceremony in
the Capitol since the first one in 2012. An Iron Man and
triathlon competitor, he also participated in each of the
annual Run with the Govs events.
